Overview

Mon researcher and scholar have been working in the context of survival of Mon language (literacy and literature) since the invasion of Pegu capital in 1757. After almost three hundred years of assimilation within Myanmar and Thailand, the survival of Mon language is required scholar’s attention to the international connection in terms of preserving language, identity and cultural autonomy. This faculty is designed and delivered courses as a survival of Mon National language, literacy and cultural identity in its origin, native countries and places in all over lower Myanmar and central Thailand. Teacher and student of Mon National College (located inside Myanmar) will be exploring in teaching and learning of Mon literacy in line with humanities, cultural identity, old manuscripts and art. Students are given conceptual knowledge and practical learning through developing of Mon grammar, spelling and writing in Mon literature in line with academic purpose. Students are also given greater opportunities in other aspect of Mon cultural dance, classical music and history of the Mon people. Mon scholar monks are also given introduction lesson to students for basic understanding of Mon Dhammasat Text and other old Mon language manuscripts. This faculty is a governance by prominent Mon scholars and researchers within Mon education communities at large. Students and instructors are given greater access to other Mon scholars internationally in terms of academic support and advisory.
