NURSING SCIENCE
Overview
The Faculty of Nursing Science at Mon National College (MNC) in Nyi Sar offers a bachelor’s degree in nursing science. This three-year program, developed with input from Myanmar and international experts, including the Royal College of Pediatricians and Child Health (RCPCH), provides 120 hours of instruction per year. The curriculum balances theory and practice at a 60-40% ratio, exceeding the practice hours required by health systems in Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, and the United States.
In the Mon area, particularly along the Thai-Myanmar border, there has long been a shortage of clinical care professionals due to healthcare neglect by military governments, conflicts, poverty, and poor accessibility. Since the February 2021 coup, the political instability and widespread armed conflict have worsened the situation, prompting ethnic organizations to build their own health workforce. In response, the Mon National Education Committee (MNEC) and the Mon National Health Committee (MNHC) launched a nursing bachelor’s program in September 2023 to address the critical need for healthcare workers in the region. This initiative aims to improve healthcare access in conflict-affected areas.
